Undoubtedly, Joshua was a keen observer not just of Moses, but also the Israelites. When he took over leadership after Moses’ death, he knew he was in for a challenge. Now, at the end of his life, Joshua puts forth the same question Moses asked the chosen people before his death, “ Are you going to serve the Lord, or not?” It seems like the answer should be obvious; but is it? God freed the people from Egypt, protected them in the desert and brought them into the Promised Land. Easy answer! But, how often do we, after being forgiven of our sins, go out and sin again? Are we committed to serving the Lord, or other gods?
