On this second Sunday following Pentecost, we celebrate the most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). It is interesting that the gospel selection for today’s feast is the multiplication of loaves and fish, instead of an account from the Last Supper. By using the only miracle that occurs in all four gospels, the sacramental theologians send an important message about the Eucharist.
Just as Jesus fed the multitude with simple elements and met their needs, so he does with us in the Eucharist. Today’s celebration is a reminder that the central point of our Sacramental life, while simple in nature, will give us all the grace we need-Jesus himself. All we have to do is take advantage of this opportunity!
