The Church in Corinth was quite the group. They were gentile converts to Christianity, steeped in Greek philosophy. They had many gifts and talents, yet they were very individualistic. One of the recurring themes of Paul’s letters to them is trying to get them to the think of others, not just themselves. (Some characteristics take longer than 1,965 years to change!)
While the Corinthians were fixated on the status of who baptized them, they missed the point of into whom they were baptized. Sometimes, we too miss the point. It is easy to get caught up on externals, rather than in the essence. Christ came for our salvation and each of us is called to help others obtain this salvation, as well as our own soul.
