In today’s second reading fromPhilippians, St. Paul reminds the community, and us, that we are destined to be with God in heaven. Even though we know this, it is always good to be reminded of it, especially during Lent. The reason we do penance and acts of charity as part of our Lenten discipline is to conform our earthly lives to what is expected of us in heaven. To paraphrase an old adage in the business world: Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. We could say: live your life for the place you want to end up, not the place where you are now.
