Philippi was an important city on the main Roman road connecting the western part of the empire with the eastern. Holds a special place in Paul’s heart, as it was the first place he preached the gospel in Europe. His letter to the community is one of joy and hope. The selection for today’s second reading gives the listeners a recap of the Golden Rule: love God, love neighbor. As Paul reminded the Philippians (and us), Jesus gave us the example of how to live. All we have to do is imitate that example with our own lives.
