How fickle can be human nature be? It changes by convenience. One day people were hailing the Lord as their Messiah, a few days later they were crying out to crucify him. We too may act in such a way. At times we may feel close to God, and He is our savior, and at other times we are the ones putting the nail in the cross. Today the Lord is asking us to be faithful. To not allow the circumstances of the world change who we are for God. Many of us still want to serve two masters: the world, and God. This is incompatible. In the book of Revelation 3:15 it reminds not to be lukewarm. We are either hot or cold. We cannot do things half-heartedly. We cannot be with one foot with God and one with the devil. Palm Sunday reminds us to be consistent, faithful, and to endure until the end. Palm Sunday also gives us a sharp contrast on how we can be as people. We can go along with the crowd for good or for bad. Just being seized by the moment but lacking conviction. Finally, Palm Sunday calls us to remain true to self. Jesus allows them to celebrate him as king, but he does not buy into the whole adulation of the crowd. He knows better and can tell intentions from afar. Jesus is not swayed by appearances and false pretenses. Let us pray we don’t become shallow but rather remain firm to our values and convictions regardless of the noise out there in the world. Let us be consistent if we praise today, let us praise tomorrow. As we start Holy Week let us pray that at the end of the day, we will be at the right side of history and remain steadfast to our professed faith in Jesus no matter the circumstances. Let us pray we don’t live for appearances but that we truly be obedient and to the Lord, even unto death. Let us be true to God, and true to self. Let us cry out Hosanna in the Highest today , and tomorrow because we have a genuine, long-lasting faith in Jesus
