In John’s gospel, there is not an actual account of Jesus’ baptism as we heard last Sunday. All we have is John the Baptist telling the people that he had baptized Jesus and spectacular things occurred. For the other evangelists, the baptism is one of Jesus’ manifestations (Epiphanies).
John, however, uses this event to challenge the believer. First, do you believe my (John) testimony about Jesus? Second, are you going to follow him? These are good points of reflection for our personal prayer. How well do we accept the faith that has been handed on to us, and how well do we put it into action?
