One thing humans do on a regular basis is overcomplicate things. For one reason or another, our brains cannot leave well enough alone. In today’s first reading, the Jewish converts wanted to make the pagan converts (who knew nothing about Judaism) follow Jewish laws. Fortunately common sense prevailed. Often, we forget that our faith is very practical. If we do what we are supposed to do, we will be fine. We don’t need to over-complicate it. Instead of dreaming up more difficult or exotic practices, we should ask ourselves, “what did Jesus teach us?" If we strive to put His teaching into practice, we will be in good spiritual shape.
