As we enter into the final weeks of the Church year, the readings look forward to the end of the time. In the gospel, Jesus understood, that even though the Sadducees were trying to trick him, people want to know what it will be like in heaven. Although his explanation is a little vague, he gives us a glimpse of the glory that awaits us.
Jesus’ description of our future condition is that we will be “like angels.” Not being bound by space or time, as well as being in a glorified body, are nice attributes to have. More importantly, we will be in the presence of God for all eternity. Any happiness we may have on earth pales in comparison to the true joy that will be ours in heaven.
