Selective memory is an interesting human ability. We are able to remember things we deem important, while forgetting information we think we won’t need. The scene in today’s first reading takes place six weeks after God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. One would think that the memory of the Passover and parting of the Red Sea would still be in the minds of the people. Alas, once the stomach starts to rumble, the people start to grumble! While it is easy for us to say they should have known better, how often do we grumble to God, even after all the blessing, we have received?
