Most of us would love it if God promised to grant us a wish as he did Solomon in today’s first reading. For what would we ask? Chances are that our requests might not be as noble as Solomon’s. We don't know whether he was feeling overwhelmed by his new role as king or if he was truly aware of limitations.
Nonetheless, Solomon hits the jackpot when he asks God for wisdom. God was elated that he asked for something that would help him do his job better. For us, Solomon’s example is so applicable. It’s not a matter of asking God to help us shuck our responsibilities, it’s asking God for the graces to do a better job at what he asks of us.
