The gospel reading says people will die of fright at the Second Coming of the Lord. And I am here thinking “Lord, you don’t make this passage easy to explain.” Hollywood talks about catastrophe after catastrophe at what they call the end of the world, and that’s the way they explain the fright with all the commotion they think is going to happen. After all the Lord says the heavens will be shaken. But as I have stated many times, the end of times should be called more “the Second Coming of the Lord.” And this changes the whole perspective of this wonderful, and awesome event when the Lord will fulfill His promise and come back and take everyone unto Himself. It will be glorious, it will be magnificent, and people should not be fearful about it, but rather eagerly await this arrival. But going back to the words of the Lord, he stated some people will die of fright. But what does that mean? Is it what Hollywood proposes? So much commotion people will have panic attacks, anxiety attacks, die from heart attacks seeing all these horrific events. Not precisely. People will die of fright not because they will see a tsunami or an earthquake, and another catastrophe. No, they will die of fright, knowing the time is over. They did not repent. There is nothing more than can do. They will be judged accordingly. And some will face a bitter end. At this point, they will know that what they rejected as false was true. They will have so much remorse, and so much disappointment, and they will die in fright, realizing that what the Church proposed was not a wife’s tale, but necessary for salvation. And there is nothing they can do about it at that point. They will realize hell is real and they will have to go there. They will grasp what is an eternity. An eternity does not end, and they will be in the wrong place forever, regretting their rejection of God. Perhaps the analogy for this time, is when a person finds out they are in trouble. Many people have a bodily reaction. Some feel like their blood pressure lowers. Some have a sensation that makes the body feel weak. Some feel a little dizzy, a little light-headed, a little heavy in the body. It’s hard to describe the feeling but it is a common reaction, shared by many who know they are in trouble. Imagine feeling that way for all eternity, and not being able to do anything about it. So, it is very important to have good preparation while still in this life for eternal salvation, and when Jesus comes, he can be greeted quite normally. “Hey, there you are.” Rather than saying, “Darn I’m in trouble now.” So, in the end, people will die of fright not the way Hollywood proposes, but because they will realize their life could have been different, and now they are not going to change the eternal outcome. Remember, how we live our lives while on this earth has eternal consequences. Do not waste time, but rather prepare so when the end of comes, you will be ready to take your place in the kingdom of God. Remember God fulfils His promise so be ready for his arrival. Remember live life well so as to have no regrets at the end of time.
