The scene of Abraham and the three visitors in today’s first reading is a vivid example of desert hospitality. For them, to entertain guests is to welcome God (little did Abraham know) . The quality of food prepared for the three visitors would have fed fifty people! The response to his hospitality was that Abraham and Sarah would have a son, the answer to their prayer. This episode is a remainder that God will not be outdone in generosity. Like Abraham, if we initiate the good works, God will bless our efforts, and bestow more on us than we could imagine.
