In the second reading, Paul continues his instruction to Timothy, whom he left in Ephesus to be the bishop. Toward the end of today’s selection there is an important line, “be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient.”
As with other aspects of our life, we sometimes fall into the trap of being “fair weather Catholics.” We justify to ourselves that not using our talents, or missing Mass, is okay because it isn’t convenient. If you have this temptation, spend a few minutes reflecting on the crucifix. It wasn’t very convenient for Jesus to die for our sins.
