We show we truly believe in the real presence of the Lord in the Eucharist when we participate in the community of faith, the Body of Christ. As we are celebrating Corpus Christi, we reaffirm our core belief that Jesus is present under both species in his full divinity. It is so beautiful to know the God which the universe cannot contain is now in my body. I can sense and feel his presence as I am comforted in the Eucharist. However, it also not just about emotions there is a sense of faith involved, we walk by faith not by sight. We too ascertain God is real when we start living as part of the Body of Christ.
Participating in different ministries because Jesus impels me to act, to serve with His Eucharistic presence. The community is vibrating of His Eucharistic presence. After almost a year here there has been a series of accomplishments that have only been possible because of the centrality of the Eucharist. We began last year by changing the wine for consecration, not that one was better than the other. We now have palls used to cover the main chalices, and at times we have altar cloths (according to season) especially some that can fit the size of our big altar. We also have bought a big glass cruet for holding the wine to be consecrated. And now the priest also washes his hands while the altar server pours water. Whatever has been done in a liturgical matter is to enhance our participation in the Eucharist. Many approved implementations have happened, thank you for your support and understanding.
We continue to hold in earthen vessels that which is precious in our sight, the Body, and the Blood of our Lord. This year we will have a Eucharistic procession with the Blessed Sacrament around our church grounds. For the 9am only inside the Church. We will also do them after the Spanish masses on Sunday around the grounds, all are welcome to come. Contemplating the Lord in His fullness does not require a language of preference, but we can come together as the Body of Christ (the Church) to honor the Lord.
The reason we will have only have the procession around the church at 9am mass is because we will also be hosting a very special event after the 9am mass for our longtime parishioner and longtime choir director, Fran Woodhead. After more than 50 years of service of music for the Eucharistic celebration, our sister is now retiring from this ministry. It is sad to let her go since she is very attentive to the celebration and directs a group of talented musicians and fellow parishioners. She will surely be missed. The only consolation is that she will continue to be present in our church for hopefully years to come. I invite you to join after the 9am mass June 11 to celebrate a legacy of service of Fran at the gym. I do not think this celebration detracts from the celebration of Corpus Christi, Fran like many other parishioners have lived their lives centered in the Eucharist, and as we see her go, hopefully more fellow parishioners will continue to offer the music for the mass to enhance the liturgy of the Eucharist. We may have to go a couple of Sundays without music, but hopefully, other choir members may continue the music for our church. If we truly honor the Eucharist, we will continue our full, active, participation in the Body of the Christ which is the Church through service (music included).
