Beware of litigant widows lest they strike you! This seems to be a message of the Gospel, but the readings are more about intercession. In the Bible it says those who are strong in the faith must support the weak. And those strong in the faith take care not to fall. I have noticed the Gospel of Luke talks much about faith. Today the readings are about supporting the faith of one another. It will be a sad day when the Lord comes back and finds no faith on earth. Faith seems to be diminishing generation after generation. Now less people believe. There are more former Catholics than there are practicing Catholics. Will Jesus find faith on earth? Will there be one single person who will still believe? Now people have options with the technology, with a phone in their hand. They are saturated by all the noise and flash of the world. They live in the now moment and going to church is just boring, not attractive in this fast-paced world. Faith is diminishing. But the first reading offers a solution. Intercession for those who are weak in the faith. Moses needed someone to hold his arms up in prayer. Many now in the world need to be lifted up in prayer. They need someone who will become a powerful intercessor who will not stop praying for them. They need someone who loves them enough to pray for them while the world continues to try to weaken their faith. We can become for them prayer warriors as we battle the world for their salvation. And the best weapon to use in this battle is the Bible. The second reading offers a powerful defense for the use of the Bible. It states the different purposes of the Bible such as instruction and correction. It also reminds us the Bible is not an invention of man but rather it is divinely inspired. The Bible can be used to help others in the matters of faith. God’s chosen ones are given this instrument for salvation, the Bible, so they can become more competent in the faith, and equipped with every good work. The Bible then becomes the sword to defend the faith. For those whose faith is diminishing two sources help: intercessory prayer and the Bible. Let us not give up on anyone who is struggling in their faith but become prayer warriors so that when Jesus comes, He will find at least some faith on earth.
