One of the great gospel scenes is today’s gospel-the raising of Lazarus. There are so many levels of interpretation and angles of understanding in it sometimes, commentators reduce the miracle to just a prelude to Jesus’ own resurrection. Although that may be so, it is also important to look at the human aspect Jesus was friends with Lazarus, Martha and Mary. He cared deeply for them; as they did for him. More importantly, they believed in him; ”Did I not tell you that if you believe you will see the glory of God?’
As we continue our Lenten Journey through these uncertain times, Jesus asks us the same question. It’s not just our friendship he wants. He wants our faith, as well.
