In today’s second reading, Paul continues his exhortation to the Corinthians. ( Remember: Paul is not pleased with the community.) The Christians in Corinth received the faith with great enthusiasm in the midst of a very strong pagan Greek city. However, it didn’t take long before the communal aspect of the faith deteriorated into an individualistic faith. (“It’s all about me !”). Paul reminds the community that the Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts as it sees fit. Everyone receives these gifts and is expected to use them in service and thanksgiving to God and neighbor. If I am not doing this, remember not only is Paul not pleased, God is not pleased, either.
