Today’s second reading continues with the famous passage on love in First Corinthians. Often chosen by couples for their weddings, Paul lays out what true love is. The reason why Paul goes into such detail is the Corinthians are not putting love into action. (If Paul stresses something in his letter, it is a safe bet the community is doing the opposite!) In this case, the Corinthians are still bragging about their spiritual gifts. Paul’s stress on love is logical. He wants the community to be truly Christian - other Christs. As Jesus showed us his perfect love (agape) by dying on the cross for our sins, he wants his followers to show the same love. One point of reflection for our spiritual life is: what would St. Paul write about us?
