Today, we bring the joyful Easter season to a close with the celebration of Pentecost. Jesus fulfills his promise to send the Holy Spirit upon his apostles. While this would truly have been an impressive sight to see, we know Jesus didn’t do things for show; he did them, “for us and our salvation.”
The gift of the Spirit continues to enliven us toward salvation: through the Church, the sacraments and life. It continues to keep Christ’s work alive in the world today through us. If we haven’t thanked the Holy Spirit recently, today would be a good day to begin. Being attentive and open to the Spirit’s power in our lives is a sure way to ensure that we are doing what Christ asks of us.
