Today’s second reading is the beginning of Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians. This is oldest of Paul’s letters, written only about twenty years after Jesus’ ascension to heaven. This letter, which we will read for the next month, gives us a glimpse of the primitive Church. Paul reminds the community of converts that even though they chose to accept the faith, they were actually chosen by God to be his disciples. Their good works and faith are examples of how the Holy Spirit is working within them. May we unleash the Holy Spirit ‘s energy within us, as well; so that others may come to know Christ through our good example.
