With the First Sunday of Advent, we begin the year of grace 2020, a new year in the life of the Church. Every beginning presents us with opportunities. It renews the virtue of hope within us. It is a time to recommit ourselves to follow Christ more closely.
Although most stores have been selling Christmas decorations for the past couple of months, liturgically we will not think about Christmas until December 17th. These first few weeks of Advent focus on Jesus’ second coming at the end of the time, the second Advent. This is the only promise he has not yet fulfilled “I will come again.”
As we journey through this beautiful season, may we remember the words, “thy kingdom come;” and then, make sure our lives are prepared for its arrival!
