Terror on every side. It seems this is the state of the world now as it has been always. When we think the world has reach a limit of debauchery, there is still more to be done. The world surely outdoes itself. It keeps diving into depravity more and more. One can only have the same horror look like the prophet Jeremiah. Shock and dismay invade our minds.
Indignation for what the world was devolved is also present. However, whatever emotions we may feel at the time, we still do not do much to change the world. We hold it in. While the world is not ashamed to proclaim “with pride” what they have now become. We remain silent. While the world is saying “Renounce, let us renounce.” We are a silent majority, rather we are a complacent majority. As we see the world denigrating our values, and our morals, we do not say anything for fear of being called intolerant, old-fashioned, closed-minded. We do not say anything for fear of losing someone close to our family. Perhaps we have already lost them to sin. We do not say anything because we have confused love with licentiousness. Love is not allowing anything to go for fear of hurting other’s peoples’ feelings. Love is based on truth. If it not based on truth than it is just a convenience. For whatever reason while we remain silent, the power of the wicked continues to grow.
The prophet Jeremiah and the Gospel offer some ideas to counteract the wickedness of the world. First, witness. Testify, do not be afraid to stand up for what you believe. Do not deny who you are, and who you are represent, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Second, sing to the Lord, praise the Lord. Continue to practice and strengthen your faith in the assembly of the faithful. Worship the Lord with all your heart, and do not le the world muffle your praise and thanksgiving to God. Third, take up a cause. There are some any opportunities to practice social justice. There are some many areas of concern to counteract the world. Defend life from beginning to the end. Fourth, do not get into heated arguments. Anger should not characterize our response. Remember vengeance is not the way of the Christian, trust in God’s justice. Fifth, do not become overwhelmed. Start
somewhere, start locally, start with you family make a difference in your environment. Do not let fear paralyze you but entrust your efforts to God. Do not be afraid of the world, you got this with God at your side. Sixth, learn more about the teachings of the church regarding morality. Know your worth as a human person and as a Christian. Defend your integrity of both body and soul. And finally, do not be afraid of persecution. If you are not being persecuted, then you have it too easy. And perhaps are not doing enough to defend the faith. With God at our side, the victory over the world is assured.
